Weatherproof Key Card Access Electronic Office Door Lock MID300

I have a full-service wired exterior door access system, but have two doors that need to be card-reader enabled but needn't be on the "full" system. I bought two of these items for those doors. The explanation in the manual is insufficient and the design that I must remove the door handle to change the battery both make me regret my purchase.
